Using AI for Authors

we have to acknowledge that AI is not going to go away. Our competitors are going to use AI from everything from creating social media continent to creating stories.

As authors, we have an opportunity to use AI to work faster. I’m definitely not saying to use AI to write your next book. However, there are so many opportunities that we can use AI in an ethical fashion, and keep up with our competitors.

Ways of Using AI as authors

For example, let’s say you have an idea for your next book. You could easily ask AI to write you an outline based on your writing method of choice. I asked ChatGPT what novel writing methods it was aware of – it knew everything from romantic beats to the heroes journey.

AI could write 30 days worth of your social media posts (just make sure that they are personalized to you). In fact, you might have AI come up with ideas for your blog posts for your website and how to target your ideal reader.

I don’t see any of this is cheating. It’s simply using the resources at hand to work faster and smarter. And then we use more of our time to do the things we love the most- write those amazing stories with emotion and danger and adventure.

How I’ve Used AI

I have used AI for many things. That includes writing a landing page for my latest book, having it write some of my social media posts, having it come up with a list of blog ideas for my website. And I’ve even used AI to create a short audiobook.

There’s been a lot of conversation about AI for audio. And let’s be honest. If I had the money, I would definitely pay for someone to record my audio for me. Or if it didn’t take so long, I would do it myself. But I’m not at the point I can do either of those things. So, I don’t see AI is putting audio specialists out of work. I see it as a way to help those of us who have great stories to share who are not at that level yet where we can hire someone.

And AI has definitely come along way in audio. The AI I used even made the sound of breathing during its recording.

If you want to hear more about using AI as an author, consider signing up for the 2024 pikes Peak authors conference happening April 26-28. I’ll be presenting a couple different subjects on AI for authors.

If you’re curious about that audiobook that created using an AI you can find it on Google play and Amazon.  It’s my award-winning short story The Glass Mountain.
