Don’t Regret Not Writing That Story

From young author Lorna Cronnon who just had her short story (Nathan Dayspring) with an autistic main character hit best seller on Amazon has this to say “keep writing because somewhere out there there is this little kid wishing they could find a book to spark their love of reading. All it takes is one book for someone who hates to read to love it. Keep writing because if you don’t that story you have in your head will never make someone smile or laugh or cry. Keep writing because no matter what you do if you don’t share it you can’t change anyone’s world or their minds”

But maybe you’r not thinking of waiting until retirement. Maybe you want to write a story right now but you have some hurdles to get around.

It could be your family doesn’t think writing is a worthy activity. I know I was stuck in a relationship where my boyfriend didn’t want me to write. It wasn’t until I got out of that relationship that I started writing again.

Or maybe you don’t feel confident in what you’re writing. Or maybe you aren’t sure if it will be worthy of reading. But let me remind you, if this helps, that someone wrote and sold the story idea to sharknadoe, a wild idea that appeals to a lot of people. If someone can sell that, then there’s someone out there who’s going to love what you create.

I know that’s pretty simplistic. So, I’m going to give you a activity

First your going to pinpoint your hurdles and note them down. Don’t Do this if you’re driving.

For the physical hurdles come up with a plan to work thru those.

For the mental hurdles, write them all down on a piece of paper, then find a jar, a box, a container of some kind and tuck them away. You can pull them out later. For now you just want to write the story and you can deal with those hurdles again some other time.

Now I hope that helps and if you want to hear more about getting around hurdles, and I got around them, I’ll be presenting that topic at the Boss Mom Virtual Retreat in September. It starts September 6. It’s a free online event with presentations from all areas of business. And you’ll find the link to register on the podcast page at women’s thriller writers dot com.

If you’d like to share the hurdles you’ve gotten around, feel free to share it below.
