How to Write Better

if I can be an multi award-winning author, than you can do this too. And I really love what one of my editors had to share about this.

Jim of Daddy Wags Editing said, “So what if you don’t know where the commas are supposed to go or if you don’t know the difference between “which” and “that.”

That should not stop you from starting and writing and finishing your book.

Find a proof reader to do that for you.

Your job, as the writer/author/storyteller — is to craft a great story.

The role of the proof reader is to join your team after you’ve written your book — and that person will clean up the crumbs of misplaced commas and verbs/nouns that don’t agree.

Really.

That’s perfect, Thanks Jim.

So here’s what I’ve done to get better at grammar.

1. I picked up a grammar workbook. And I’ll make sure to link to one I used in the show notes.

2. I signed up for grammarly so I can clean up the obvious issues (and I also learn as I find repetitive things.)

3. When my novel goes to my review group sometimes the members will send me grammar edits, but the review group is really about story, so I don’t relay on them for that.

4. Then it goes to my editor or proof reader.

5. I read it out loud to catch the last bits.

So, if someone ever says your grammar is bad, tell them thanks, I’m working on it and it’s getting better.

An excellent yet amazingly brief overview of key writing aspects. I found Gramarly to be exceptionally helpful.
