The Power of a Review Group for Your Novel

AK Weller, author of Enemy Closer has this to share about a review group.

“Someone who’s never been part of a review group may hear those words and picture a panel of austere super-writers reading your precious novel and then taking a vote to decide whether or not you ought to stop writing immediately. That’s what I pictured, and thankfully I was wrong. I was fortunate to find a critique group focused on making each other’s novels better, not on deciding whether people should be writing in the first place. They provided insightful suggestions that absolutely made my story better, they taught me that constructive criticism is more interesting than painful, and they gave me the confidence to publish my first novel.”

The power of a review group only works if they are honest and constructive.

It is nerve-racking to sit in the hot seat.. It’s taken me about years to feel not only comfortable in the hot seat, but excited, because I know I’ll get valuable feedback.

When I share about editors, I’ll talk more about what feedback to keep and what to toss, but for now:

  1. Find a review group
  2. Or make your own with rules
  3. Or join mine – Querque Quills
