…On the marketing panel with me at Killer Nashville was Kiersten Modglin who writes one-off books and part of her success, besides having great books, is she was very targeted with finding ARC readers. She has a list of 200 and she makes sure that they have some following on social media. That’s a smart way to be strategic about finding ARC readers.
Another selling point is getting reviews on a book that’s already published
Maybe, like me, you didn’t get an ARC list before you published your book. I can tell you, at least for adventure, it took 40 reviews before my Amazon ads actually worked in selling my first book.
That’s because when anyone takes a look at a book listing on Amazon, one of the first things they glance at is the number of reviews.
And that third thing, Getting an Email list of fans
There are a lot of ideas out there about getting fans. My favorite book about growing an email list is Newsletter Ninja. It’s specifically for authors on how to build a list and grow a list of fans. And when I say fans, I mean people who are going to love you books. And that’s not everyone. So again, it’s being about being strategic about growing your email list.
I’ve seen authors run a contest where they’ll give out an Amazon gift card if to someone who joins their email list that month. Please don’t do that. Those are not targeted fans, those are just people who like to shop on Amazon, and they’ll leave your subscriber list just as quickly as they joined.
Instead, use an optin or a free item that can connect to your ideal reader. For example, I offer two free short stories that lead the reader into my world of the Idol Makers. One short story is exclusive to my email list and the other is an award-winning short story. Exclusive and award-winning are certainly terms that are going to help get readers to sign up.
I realized that there are probably some of you out there who want to work on all of these things, and that includes me. So, I’ve created 3 different challenges where I’ll share how to do these things and we’ll make goals and get it done.
But, you don’t need to join a challenge to get this done! Set aside some time on your calendar for each goal and get out there!
